The Ti West film The Innkeepers was actually based on a real life hotel - Yankee Pedlar Inn in Torrington, Connecticut. The whole reason Ti West knew about the Yankee Pedlar Inn is because he and the crew stayed there while filming The House of the Devil. Lights would turn on and off by themselves, the TV turned on and off randomly, lights burnt out, and there were generally weird vibes going on.
