Shadowhunters 3x11
They opened with Jace lookin' hot as hell fighting with those thigh holsters on, and I already knew it was going to be a good ep. I do love the presumed dead trope, although this is way different from the books and I have no idea where they are going with this story-line (I guess that's the point).
As soon as they did the flashbacks with Simon and Jace thinking about Clary, I started crying. Jace's pain was just palpable. I thought it was a great contrast to show them both very angry, but in different ways.
Simon was hallowed out and hopeless, like there was nothing left for him to do. And then Maia showed up, and made him realize that maybe he could at least do something about his mark.
Jace felt angry that everything was his fault, and he was going to fight the world and himself to try and feel some sort of atonement. And then Izzy tried to relate to him and Alec lectured him about remembering everyone else in his life. Alec's speech was a little off-putting but well-intentioned and goes against what we are taught to say to people in emotionally challenging places, but I did appreciate the yin and yang with Izzy and Alec.
The parallels this ep did cast Maia in more of a sister role for Simon, which is interesting even though they both still seemed as if they wanted closure for their romantic relationship.
God, I just wanted Simon and Jace to talk about Clary and their grief. I hope that happens.
Clary was a boss this episode, even though she's pretty much stuck. I love the whole aesthetic with the blue cloak and the snow. Gorgeous and tragic all at once. And Sebastian is creepy as hell.
Magnus' personal struggle is very interesting, because usually he's the calm, confident one. I like how Alec is trying to be stoic about the whole thing, but I'm curious to see when push comes to shove how Alec will react. He already seems like he's leaning towards keeping Magnus away from Shadowhunter activity. Also, Harry Shum Jr.'s hair was amazing this ep.
Luke!! Keep fighting the good fight, Luke. Someone had to be onto the whole location switching thing, and I love how he had the crazy researcher vibe going. I think that fits because Simon and Jace are the ones who are going to be too torn up to see anything clearly, but Luke is close enough to Clary to be desperate for answers.
