Half a Moon and New Movies!!

For halfamoon I was able to make a few posts:

For the theme both sides of the law, I made a post about JoAnne Galloway from A Few Good Men.

For the Education theme, I made some Liz Ortecho icons.

For the music theme, I made a playlist about Maria DeLuca and The Wild Pony.

For the dealing with adversity theme, I made a rec list of Natasha Romanoff Vids.

Finally was able to watch Top Gun: Maverick because I got my free month of paramount+. WOW I think it deserved the hype. It's so fun and so compelling (even though Mav being in the USN for 30 years and only making Captain is very weird). I can overlook that for all the COOL SHIT they do in the film. Plus, there are SO many good ships. I'll have to rewatch asap.

Also watched Devotion with Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell, and Joe Jonas! The two leads have fabulous chemistry and I loved all of the costumes and scenery. It felt a little over the top at times, and the ending was way too sad :/ But I thought Joe did well. He fit into that stereotypical class clown role but he also had some convincing concerned/sympathetic faces at the end of the film. Plus he looked good in Navy whites.

There are a NUMBER of USN things that are questionable in TGM, but you know where I stand on the topic. What ships did you like?

I liked Devotion, but I wanted to love it and didn't. The ending was really sad, but the whole sequence with the crash was probably the best part of the film.

haha, that's true. I think Rooster/Hangman might be my favorite pair. I can totally see Rooster/Mav. And Mav/Ice had some lovely moments. I actually liked Mav/Penny too. I am going to do a rewatch and maybe a different ship will jump out at me. What about you? I haven't looked at your Top Gun fic yet.

That's a good way to put it. Devotion tried to cover a lot of ground and the pacing felt a bit weird to me. I liked the way they showed the missions and the crash though.

I'm sort of doing pairing bingo at this point. I like Mav/Hondo, Rooster/Mav, Phoenix/Halo, Phoenix/Coyote, Coyote/Hangman Payback/Fanboy, Mav/Cyclone, Mav/Penny, Mav/Goose/Carole, Mav/Ice. I'm take or leave on Hangman/Rooster, but there's some really good fic for them, so...

Mav/Hondo! Oo and Mav/Goose/Carole is such a good OT3 - there's the whole co-parenting thing, and all of that history. I do want to check out more Phoenix fic, too.

I really enjoyed Devotion and agree that they had great onscreen chemistry. The visualizations and cinematography were very well done and because the actor is in both this and Top Gun Maverick I now want crossover vids (or fic). I haven't gone searching for them or anything, but I tell myself "wouldn't that be fun"

Yes, that would be a fun crossover! Like maybe Hangman time travels. Or that's his ancestor flying a corsair? Or he keeps dreaming about the Korean war for unknown reasons.
