We finished Only Murders in the Building season four. It wasn't my favorite season because it got VERY meta about being an actor. But I liked how they tied everything together in the last episode. All the best friend vibes were very cute, too.

Captain America: Brave New World: SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE )

Eastern Promises: I watched this movie because I saw someone talking about it on tumblr. It is indeed very violent and very homoerotic. The twist was handled so well!

Doctor Odyssey!! This show is so fun - it's hitting so many of my buttons. It's got the 'case of the week' vibe because it's created by Ryan Murphy of 9-1-1 fame. The cruise ship setting is pretty and also lets the characters spend so much time with each other. Most of the quirky minor characters have been really interesting, and COVID is an integral part of one of the characters' backstories (as opposed to being ignored, which I despise in shows set in the modern day). Plus the three leads have great chemistry and are turning into the throuple of my dreams.

We started watching Common Side Effects because it was created by Joseph Bennett - the same guy who created Scavengers Reign - and Steve Hely. It's trippy and engrossing - I can't wait to find out more about the conspiracy at the heart of the show.

What shows/movies have you seen lately?

Also, I have time for some Japanese practice this week: Some Japanese phrases under the cut. )

Clearing out my WIPs - I'm hoping to transition away from google docs but I haven't tried any alternatives yet. Any suggestions?

A Shyan spooky season WIP that I'm saving for later: under here. )

And prompts from the No True Pair round that I haven't started:
March Twenty-Ninth - 2 takes 4 to a theme park [Tashi takes Lily]
March Thirty-First - 3 & 4 are traveling together to [destination] - Patrick and Lily are traveling to the hospital ??

We just finished watching the animated space show Scavengers Reign on Max. I loved how alien the planet is (so many really neat creatures), and how creative it is visually! Plus it has heart, too. It could do with a pinch more found family but otherwise it's got everything I love in a space epic. I hope they get picked up for season two.

I read the first two books of the The Raven Cycle series after seeing it on tumblr for awhile. Wow I love all of the characters! And the writing is beautiful. The third book finally became available on Libby :D

I started reading The Bee Sting by Paul Murray, but I couldn't finish it halfway through. The mother's point of view was just a wall of run-on sentences!!

I also started Masters of the Air the book, but it's coming due on Libby already. I got through almost 300 pages. Don Miller is an interesting writer, but the flow is really throwing me off. If his main focus is going to be John Egan, than intersperse him between chapters instead of constantly repeating how doomed the air war was. He's making his hero flyboys look stupid for even undertaking such a shitty mission in the first place, and I'm not sure that's what he's going for.

#8 Talk about a current fannish project: I am bound and determined to finish chapter 5 (the last chapter) of my Roswell New Mexico Big Bang fic Drew the Line Right Through You. I finished editing what I've written so far, but I just have to stick the landing/ending. This is one of those projects that lived in my head so long, because I had all these pre-canon Kyle Valenti headcanons - and then I spent so much time outlining and editing, that I'm probably putting too much pressure on it :/ But I already received GORGEOUS cover art for it (with QUOTES! In WATERCOLOR!!), and the whole challenge period has already ended, so I just need to send it out into the world.

#9 Rec Us Your Newest Thing: Hades the Video Game! Okay I know this came out way back in 2018, but I'm finally playing it. It was really intimidating to start, because I know NOTHING about video games. I was only playing Stardew Valley at the time, which I still love. But the Hades controls are pretty user-friendly and the graphics are gorgeous. What's really amazing about the game is the story, though! Zagreus is an outstanding character - he's got Daddy and Mommy issues, many admirers, tons of bravado and personality, and he's hot :P Thanatos is my other favorite right now, and I definitely ship it. Although the Meg/Zag vibes are getting stronger. Eurydice is so interesting, and I'm just now getting into the Achilles and Patroclus storyline. I'm not sure how accurate everything is, but I feel like I'm learning about Greek mythology too. I finally made it to the final boss for the first time, using the twin fists of malphon, but I haven't escaped yet. I used boons from Aphrodite, Artemis, Dionysus, Zeus, and someone else I'm forgetting - I think the key to that run was leveling up the boons as much as I could, and using the spiked collar keepsake until the last level (when I switched to Skelly's tooth).

Someone recommended this short film (3 min 30 sec) on Discord, and it's so visually stunning! It contemplates what space exploration might look like, apparently based on real places in our solar system. It makes me want to read all the Space AUs.

For [community profile] halfamoon I was able to make a few posts:

For the theme both sides of the law, I made a post about JoAnne Galloway from A Few Good Men.

For the Education theme, I made some Liz Ortecho icons.

For the music theme, I made a playlist about Maria DeLuca and The Wild Pony.

For the dealing with adversity theme, I made a rec list of Natasha Romanoff Vids.

Finally was able to watch Top Gun: Maverick because I got my free month of paramount+. WOW I think it deserved the hype. It's so fun and so compelling (even though Mav being in the USN for 30 years and only making Captain is very weird). I can overlook that for all the COOL SHIT they do in the film. Plus, there are SO many good ships. I'll have to rewatch asap.

Also watched Devotion with Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell, and Joe Jonas! The two leads have fabulous chemistry and I loved all of the costumes and scenery. It felt a little over the top at times, and the ending was way too sad :/ But I thought Joe did well. He fit into that stereotypical class clown role but he also had some convincing concerned/sympathetic faces at the end of the film. Plus he looked good in Navy whites.

We finished Hacks season 1 on HBO Max. This show takes the trope of shitty female leads and gives them room to grow and care about each other. It's also very funny. The most interesting part for me is how Deborah chooses to use her money. I think this show is a little more nuanced and/or realistic look at new wealth. I really liked Deborah by the end. I'm excited there will be a season 2!

I've been watching season 1 of The Great. I love the whole attitude and aesthetic/costumes!! Plus, so many f/f ship possibilities. There are definitely some content warnings, like bad dubcon sex - but the show manages to be fun and hopeful too, instead of dark and gloomy. I think I have enough dark/gloomy shows :P Catherine definitely gets to hold her own, and I'm excited for her new coalition.

Finished s4 of Cobra Kai. Spoilers under here )

I probably shouldn't sign up for another fic exchange, but the ships and tags at [community profile] idproquo look like so much fun!

I was disappointed by Sex Education season 2. Spoilers under the cut )

We finished The Witcher! It was fun to watch, although the timeline was all over the place. I know nothing about the game, which might have aided my understanding. Spoilers under the cut )

And we just started Killing Eve. It's witty and weird, but it still seems to treat death seriously (which I like). I'm impressed with how they are portraying the serial killer as an actual psychopath. I'm immediately seeing the contrast with Lucifer, because Lucifer (the character and the show) treats death/mortality as a big joke in a lot of respects (and that makes the whole show feel silly sometimes).
