Deep Conversations

I'm planning on liveblogging/posting as I watch season two, since I have some new people on my flist who are sense8 fans :D

Okay so I'm slightly confused by the Wolfgang subplot right now. Are all of the Berlin kings trying to get him to join their side? Wolfgang shot a guy last episode but I thought that was because they were chasing him. Oh but that guy was an enemy of Fuchs, so Fuchs is rewarding him?? Also, Felix owning a club sounds like the perfect job for him.

Whispers' family - so it seems like his wife knows he's a sensate and that he has to take blockers. But his kids aren't sensates? Is being a sense8 a recessive trait? Also, is he only allowed to have a family because he's helping BPO? Is that what they have on him? When they revealed that whispers killed Sara, that kind of came out of left field for me (Maybe I didn't pay enough attention last season) but I'm not clear on Whispers' motivation. Surely he can feel/understand how much he's hurting his fellow sensates.

Okay my little shipper heart loved when Wolfgang told Riley not to give up on Will. There was this undercurrent of tension there, like Wolfgang recognizes and respects (and admires?) Will's stubbornness.

The speech with Lito & Capheus playing off of each other and talking about what film means to them was really beautiful. I wasn't sold on the new actor playing Capheus, but that moment had great emotional pay off and I like him a lot more now. And it was lovely that Lito brought Daniela and Hernando to the premiere, even though shit got ugly.

Riley's Dad! He's such a fun character. He's quirky enough to just go with Riley's requests and not ask too many questions, which really fits the fairly carefree character they set up in season one. There aren't really any other sense8 parents that they can rely on for this type of covert operation.

Nita continues to be the best sense8 partner. Her outfits were fire this episode, too. I hope others get to find out this season. Especially Hernando and Daniela, I'm dying to know how they'd react. But also Rajan. Kala came so close to telling him in s1, but now it seems like he's been sidelined a bit.

The moment with Wolfgang and Sun (and then Will) at the zoo, watching a tiger pacing in its cage! I am not immune to obvious but appropriate metaphors.

I LOVE how it's revealed that all of the sense8s had this great decoy plan, and through sheer determination, Will wore down whispers until he forgot his pills at an opportune time. When Riley called them all in, and they all gathered clues - and then Whispers' face!! I got chills when Will delivered his threat. I'm looking forward to this showdown!!

nyctanthes posted this article called: Why on Earth Have I Seen the Same Broadway Show 13 Times? An Investigation. I love the sincere way the writer explores their own self-proclaimed insane behavior about the play. It was also fun how they discuss being in the theater with so many other mega-fans, and feeling a part of something.

That's the most important part! For me, fandom isn't just about falling in love with media. It's also being able to share that love in a sincere way and a safe way with other people. I think muccamukk mentioned the philosophy of it in their post - when someone else says they see this particular aspect of the show/song/book the same way I do, HUZZAH! My perception of reality isn't totally fucked up! Or if it is, at least we can play pretend together :)

To that end, I'd like to say thank you to Supernatural fandom. For those peak years from 2005 to about 2010 or so, Supernatural fandom led me to all kinds of wonderful internet spaces. I used to tape episodes on VHS as they aired live, and then I rewatched them countless times. Probably more than 13 if I liked a particular episode :P My family definitely categorized that behavior as insane. There was definitely nobody I could talk about wincest with IRL, but the signs where there in the canon imo!! Posting recaps and dissecting tiny little details in canon became a jumping-off point for genuine conversations that were fun to be a part of. I started being much more creative while reading so much fic - and learning a lot about sexuality/gender in the process. Supernatural fandom also taught me a lot about internet etiquette - like how you don't have to get involved in discourse you don't agree with, you don't have to attack people who ship something different or write a kink you don't like. Because lucky for us, fandom spaces on the internet are a huge gathering place! I've always been able to find someone else who views my ship or my show the way I do (on Livejournal, but now on AO3 and DW and Tumblr), and I can just filter out all the rest. That's probably the number one reason fandom space feels so safe - I can curate my own experience and share my love with a particular piece of media with other people while being creative. And being creative makes my brain feel really great. So THANK YOU for being a part of that.

Of course there have been some people who have acted in bad faith throughout the years, so I also want to use this post to say I'm so grateful to everyone who moderates comms and exchanges! By enforcing fair rules, you make our community what it is. Thank you for giving me this space to just vibe and have a nice time with other fans ♥

I am getting ready to delete my Livejournal. I haven't posted anything there since 2022, and all of the news about the data being sold off is making me super uncomfortable. I loved that website for such a long time, but maybe it's really time to say goodbye.

I'm rereading it and I don't have the same love for it as I once did, but It's still worth noting how much the characterization of this fic likely influenced my future webgott fics.

I finished season 1 of Sense8 recently! It premiered on June 5, 2015. Season 2 premiered December 23, 2016 with a Christmas special. The rest of season two premiered May 5, 2017. SO I filtered for fic and vids that were updated prior to 23 December 2016 for my first rec list of rec_cember. This is such a beautiful summary of Lito & Hernando & Dani during season 1. I really love the way it captured their shared joy by the end! Plus this song is so perfect for Lito.

Because suddenly he’s with Lito, in his expansive, steam-clouded shower. And Lito’s with Hernando.

I wanted to read something with this ship ever since 1x06 and this fic delivers! I love how the author describes the way they switch between visiting and inhabiting each other's bodies. Will's inexperience compared with Lito's experience is so sexy to me.

Gorgeous compilation of season 1! I really like how this highlights how extraordinary and meaningful their connection is with each other. The vidder does such a good job of balancing everyone/giving everyone screen time, which I'm sure is a challenge with such a big main cast.

✰Angst vor der Angst series by bluetears07 (Sun/Felix, Wolfgang/Felix, Part II Rated Explicit).

Wolfgang and Sun spend time bonding over the differences between brothers by choice and those related by blood.

Gorgeous prose and this is so sexy too! Sun & Wolfie have so much in common so this really fits. I adore how both of them let their affection for Felix flow, and they aren't threatened by each other.


I'm also shipping Kala/Wolfgang and Kala/Wolfgang/Rajan but I haven't run into any post-s1 fic that I want to dive into yet.

TV
•Heated Rivalry!! It's so exciting to fall in love with a new show and boy am I down BAD. Shane Hollander, the man that you are. There are specific scenes that might never leave my brain. More on this later.

•Umbrella Academy Season Four. I saw how bad the reviews were, so I totally avoided watching until now. I was prepared to hate it but I ... didn't? It did feel rushed, especially the Lila/Five storyline and Viktor and AU!Hargreeves. I wanted more of both of those relationships, actually. But I laughed at the hijinx and I did tear up in the end. I loved how the family had become about not just the seven of them (b/c of Claire, Diego and Lila's kids, etc), but in the end they still chose each other. Being in love looked really good on Five. Also, my ship is still alive b/c when Allison got hurt in the last ep, Luther freaked out and then ran to her and I ate that shit up. [This season was set during Christmas?? Perfect for this time of year]

Movies
•Babygirl. I watched this because likeadeuce made a post about it, and it did not disappoint. This film really spoke to me! Tthere's still guilt and shame and confusion to deal with when it comes to desire sometimes! But even though that's true, the film is every pro-Let Woman Have Orgasms. Just, incredibly satisfying. Joyful, even, by the end. I watched it 3x already *g* [Totally a Christmas movie as well. So many decorations!]

•I just watched Fifty Shades of Grey for the first time. What a contrast to the above film. I mean, I'm not sure if Anastasia liked one second of the whole movie? Jamie Dornan is hot, though, I'll give him that. It's a train wreck but I want to see where it goes in the second movie.

•Sinners. The second half was SO fun. The world building was incredible! I'm not the biggest Michael B. Jordan fan but the cast really brought their A-game. I liked the balance of humor and horror and I loved the ending.

•Materialists. Chris Evans was looking cute with his frumpy hair but overall pretty meh. I did like the message at the end though - let women be the breadwinners!
