I didn't sign up for Chocolate Box this year, but I did write a pinch-hit. And there are a massive amount of fics to enjoy. Here are my favorites:

island breeze | DC Extended Universe/MCU Crossver, Diana Prince/Bucky Barnes, Teen
This fic feels like coming home. It's so tender and intimate and I did not know I could get into this pairing but yes, sign me up.

a strange circumstance | MCU, Thor/Heimdall, Explicit
The AU where Thor is an orphan turned prostitute, but he can still see thru Heimdall's eyes. Thor is confident but Heimdall is much more experienced and more commanding. This fic hits all my buttons for this pairing.

closed circle | Buzzfeed Unsolved, Ryan/Shane, Teen
This fic has some funny punctuation but it totally works because the story is creepy and gothic and Ryan is panicked but also getting shit done and I had a lot of fun reading this.

recipe for disaster | Buzzfeed Unsolved, Ryan/Shane, Teen
A serial killer AU with a bakery angle - this is the only way I like my bakery AUs, apparently. And Shane does not give a fuck about anything except Ryan, and I find that oddly charming.

praying for sparks in the dark (in the heart) | DC Extended Universe, Superbat, Explicit
Great Clark characterization. I usually don't like identity porn but this fic really worked for me because they both realize what's going on fairly quickly and there are certain things that give the other way. Plus, the sex is possessive and dangerous and very hot.

Here are my reccs from the first half of the alphabet + my gift! Please mind the tags.

A Perfectly Natural Product of Present Civilization | Nikita (TV), Nikita/Michael
What an amazing fic gift! 13k of 1920s AU - Alex and Nikita taking down a baddie, complete with an undercover scene at a speakeasy and Michael realizing what side he should be on. I loved the world-building and I'm so glad that it has a happy ending. The exploration of 1920s tech is great, too! ♥

An Account of the Nanite Epidemic in Broad Street | 1850s London Cholera Epidemic RPF
A space AU! About a historical epidemic! Featuring some fascinating world building and robot/human friendships. I knew nothing about this epidemic before reading, but I was instantly drawn in by the thoughtful prose.

Monsters Cuvier Did Not Dream Of | 19th Century Paleontology RPF, Cope/Marsh
A really heart wrenching take on the bone wars. I loved the angst as the main character gets self-reflective in his old age. Plus, the details about the discovered creatures really sold it.

Close Your Mouth (Open Your Heart) | Justice League, Bruce/Clark
All of my favorite Bruce and Clark personality traits - Bruce being stubborn and aloof post-canon, and Clark trying to desperately to make a connection. The slow build is delicious. Plus, Alfred is a great observer as always.

Ferda Bis | Letterkenny, Rielly/Jonesy
This little scene is hilarious and could absolutely have been on the show.

Skip to the Practical Part | Letterkenny, Reilly/Jonesy
A 5 times fic with conflicted boys and so much flirting. Plus, I really like how the author handles their past canon poly relationship with Katy.

Here are the rest of my fic recommendations from Yuletide 2017, mostly because I wish there was a better way to organize bookmarks on A03.

the old story of starting out
A pre-canon fic for DC Cinematic Universe featuring Bruce growing up with Alfred. This fic deserves ALL the love. The details are rich and vivid, and I really like the author's take on how much they have both influenced each other.

place your hand in mine
A toy story ship fic! Andy and Sid are summer camp counselors, and vastly different people, but that only makes the romance burn hotter. GAH.

you, after the battle we won
A Wonder Woman AU of what Diana and Steve's life would have been like after the war. I adore the characterization, Diana's steadfast loyalty, and Steve's unchanging passion for her.

this christmas
This is the epilogue from political animals that I always wanted! TJ has a kickass OMC husband in this, and the characterization is just wonderful. My heart melted.
