Jumping in on this because I like some of the questions :D

Day 6: Who was the first hero you wanted to be saved by? And from what would you need rescuing?

Clark Kent of Smallville. Maybe there's an assassin trying to kill me from afar because I'm giving an impactful speech, and Clark has to stop the bullet. Maybe I've thought about this question before.

Day 7: Who was the first villain you admired, even if only a little? Why?

So for this question I looked up the difference between anti-hero and villain. It seems like the only major difference is that a villain has to have a foil/protagonist to fight against, whereas an anti-hero is the protagonist. I loved Lex Luthor in Smallville, and I think he counts as a villain since he's Clark's foil. He's not overtly the villain until much later on in the show. Watching his descent was so tragic but also I felt so much sympathy for him and his worldview. I guess that's what makes a powerful villain. I also remember really liking the Green Goblin in the Tobey Maguire Spiderman films.

Day 9: Who, from any of your fandoms, would you like to pluck out of their fiction-based universe and drop into this universe, in a role such as an elected official or the like?

Jed Bartlett and his entire white house staff from West Wing (for obvious reasons).

All of the questions for the June Something are posted here.

Day 5: Compare and/or contrast your very first fandom obsession and your very latest fandom obsession.

First fandom obsession was probably Clark Kent/Lana Lang from Smallville, and now my favorite OTP is Sam/Bucky of MCU. Very different OTPs, but both fandoms are based on comic books that have huge followings and a ton of canon history. There are still trolls and ship wars, that I now know to stay on the outside of. I was definitely an obnoxious fan back in the day, and I took everything way too personally. I'm still a shipper, but now it's a lot more fun to kind of just be in my own little corner. I related to Clark and to Lana a lot - as for Sam and Buck, I don't think I relate so much as I just really enjoy them/their personalities every time they are onscreen together.

Day 6: What's a fandom that you wish had a bigger following?

The Expanse! It's a kickass scifi show with some really gorgeous scenery and actors. Plus there is a ton of ship potential for all of the mains, although it did take me a little while to get to know everyone. The online fandom did rally to save the show, but I still hardly see any fandom content in terms of fic/vids/art etc.

Also, The English Game. It was a mini series on Netflix with SO much potential. The enemies to lovers trope was strong in this one, with the main characters being rival soccer players who also were from vastly different social classes. I'll probably nominate for Yuletide this year.

Day 7: What's the longest time you've been in a fandom. Not necessarily your oldest fandom, but a fandom that you started and still continue to read/write/create content for in some way.

Probably Band of Brothers. I can't remember when I first watched the series, but I've been writing in that fandom since 2011 when the camp toccoa comm on LJ was active. There was a big lull before BoB got popular on tumblr/discord again, but I'm still participating in that fandom.

Time to distract myself with a fun June fandom meme.

What's a new fandom that you've fallen into since the last June Something/in the last year?

The Expanse! And Schitt's Creek, but I'm not done watching the series yet. And I loved The English Game, although I have hardly seen any activity for that fandom.

Who is the first character that you fell in love with?

Tom Welling's Clark Kent. Holy smokes, I was so in love for all four years of high school. Then the show jumped the shark and I was heartbroken. He's probably the reason I still have a thing for dark haired dudes with blue eyes.

What is something that has surprised you about a fandom? Like, you expected the main fandom pairing to be X/Y, but the main pairing in fandom is actually X/Z. Or a pairing you expected to be slashed together isn't very popular?

The overwhelming popularity of S*terek makes little sense to me. It's my Notp for a few reasons. But when I first started watching (a total accident because it came up on Prime, I think?) back when season three had just started airing, I wasn't familiar with the fandom at all. I really thought Scott/Stiles would be the number one ship, because best friends turned lovers always seemed like a popular trope on LJ. Their dynamic is fun and Scott and Stiles are hot. I will admit that Stiles is shippable with a ton of characters, though, which is what makes the Stiles/Derek popularity even more confusing?

Fandom started for me when I stumbled onto some reruns of Smallville Season Two (or three?) on ABC family. Clark Kent was exactly my type in High School - kinda nerdy, kinda shy, hick kid who worked on a ranch, totally heroic, longer brunette hair, blue eyes. SIGN ME UP. I also related a lot to Lana because of the nerdy country-girl-next-door with big dreams vibes. I immediately spent any extra money I had on VHS tapes and learned how to set our recorder so that I could record episodes of Smallville and rewatch them. I was very religious about setting the recorder once the new season came back on, especially in the event that I had an event or family dinner etc. I wrote labels on all my VHS tapes, and recorded over episodes I liked the least (and sometimes it was hard to choose which episodes to tape over).

My family definitely thought I was being too obsessive, but by that time we had a family computer. I found some Smallville forums and almost exclusively engaged in het 'ship talk (and was relieved to find other people who loved the show the way I did). Looking back, I realize that I was definitely one of those "bad" shippers, but over time I learned a lot about relationships, and how to be a good internet user and fandom participant (and I became much more tolerant of other people's ships). To jump to the end, I had a really rough break-up with Smallville when Lana and Lex left, but I am now a proud multi-shipper.
