I meant to make way more posts for 3weeks4dreamwidth but I suppose today is as good a day as any to start.

It is so hard to find fanvids these days! And they are my number one source of fic inspiration! The Youtube search function is literally useless, and Vimeo never really took off? Or if it did, I don't know how to search the tags. It seems like a lot of fan edits/fanvids are posted on TikTok. I don't have tiktok but I can still watch vids on desktop (mobile doesn't seem to work). I can't search tags either way but at least people seem to be reposting their edits/links to their edits on Tumblr? If you know of any tips for searching for fanvids/fan edits, I'd love to hear them.

I did send out a request for Harry Crosby/Rosie Rosenthal (Masters of the Air) vid recs on Tumblr, and someone responded! They have some really fun fan edits on Tik Tok and these two are my favorites:

Still - I love the way this builds. The ending packs a punch! The longing on Harry's face!

Close to You - I love when a vid has opening dialogue to set the tone. They're fun! They're flirty! They both like music! It might be a little fast for my usual taste but it's still a delight.

If I run a YouTube search for a topic, or even a Google search for videos, I usually get some hits that I like. Once I have one, the feed usually recommends others from the same series. Here are some from this year's best-finds list so far:

But what do you search for as the topic? When I put in my ship names, I get actual clips or people reviewing the show, etc. not ship content. Then if I search the show, I have to wade through pages and pages of non-ship stuff and it's not worth it. I think it's partly because I don't really ship mega-ships right now (I'm not a destiel or sterek shipper).

Usually I start with the show name, or the character(s) I want to see. If there's a blended ship name, I might try that. Other times I just tack on "love" or "romance." I don't know how well that would work for rare ships, though.

People usually do a bang challenge based on matching art and writing. It could just as easily be done with fanvids as the inspiration for the writing.

I have a huge collection of fanvids I've downloaded over the years decades really, but it's certainly slowed down. I'm not even sure when I last tried searching for them over on youtube. While I did find some for TK/Carlos there, it's kind of a hassle having to go and look instead of just following a fanvid community and people promoting them. I think I try going for the fandom, ships/characters if desired and variations of "fanvid", "music vid(eo)" or "fan edit". If I'm feeling especially luck (and have a craving) I might even try to search for specific artists/songs, but that rarely works. It doesn't help that YouTube's not very helpful in filtering older ones out when you're trying to check if there's anything new out there.

I'm also not a big fan of the amount of original audio of what people say being left in. I remember finding it cool in the first couple of videos, but it kind of grew "old" very quickly and I really prefer the ones that are just music.

I agree with it being a great source of inspiration. Or even just a great way to find new to me music which then turns into a source of inspiration.

That's smart, I wish I would have downloaded more vids! Oh I bet you know of some great TK/Carlos fanvids though - I don't think I've ever searched for any for them but I'd take recs.

I agree, it seems way too popular to just have a bunch of audio in order to keep long clips in. It's hard to find vids without voiceovers these days.

Someone started the trend - and there are some really good music that use original audio of something being said - and then it took over way too much.

Oh well.

I checked my downloaded collection (because I'm still into downloading them) and looked them up on Youtube again (since I'm very much in the habit to sort them by maker within the fandom folders). Most of them appear to be primarily with clips of the first two seasons, but that might be more due to when I was looking the most for fanvids than any preference. I'm also not sure how much of it is the song versus the video for some of them

The song is called "Lucky" by Davina Michelle and the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the song is that combination of TK and Carlos making out and crashing into walls and the lyrics are very fitting with that :)

"Dear Future Husband". This one does feature season 4 clips and is very fun starting with them presenting their chosen suits before jumping to moments fitting to the lyrics. Then again, I did like the song beforehand.

Thank you for these!! Okay the "fire on fire" vid did an excellent job of storytelling, I really like how a lot of it was centered on their apartment and the life they built together - and fire as a metaphor really worked too.

"Halo" and "Everytime we touch" are such classic fandom songs! Those are such sweet covers. Also I never realized how much Carlos holds TK and whispers in his ear <3 "Dear future husband" was very cute and fun. Carlos was really bringing the BDE, he's always got so much swagger.

My favorite is "I think I'm in Love" - probably because it's so TK centered.
