Kala sighed and laid her head down on Rajan's shoulder. They were sitting on their wide, comfortable couch after enjoying a day off filled with shopping and eating at a restaurant that just hired a chef that Rajan liked.
She was full from the delicious pasta, and she would have been glad to spend the rest of the night just lounging and watching T.V. but it still felt like something was missing.
She glanced over at Rajan and the soft glow of the lamp was framing his soft smile. He was beautiful like this, so relaxed and happy. He saw her looking and put his warm hand on her thigh. She cuddled up into him, and pressed her lips to his cheek.
"Do you feel him here?" Rajan asked her, his voice gentle.
Kala shook her head. She didn't need to ask who Rajan was talking about, because he'd asked about him before. There was only one men they both kept tabs on like it was part of their religion. Maybe he was. Although they could hardly say that to Wolfgang. She didn't want him to run away from them.
"Do you want to reach out to him?" Rajan asked.
Kala nodded, but she and Rajan had just talked to Wolfgang a couple days ago. He'd been excited to tell them about his new car, and about how Felix was considering adopting a cat. She had no real reason to talk to him again so soon. Before she could come up with some excuse, she felt Wolfgang reaching out for her. She eagerly accepted him, and her whole body felt that familiar tug forward, just as Wolfgang appeared in front of her.
He had a huge, childlike grin on his face. "Kala! Rajan! It's snowing!"
"He's here," she told Rajan. "And he said it's snowing!"
"Oh!" Rajan said, nearly as excited as Wolfgang. "What is it like there?"
"Can I show you?" Wolfgang asked, reaching out his hand.
"Yes. C'mon, Rajan. He wants to show us!"
Kala grabbed Rajan with one hand, and reached out for Wolfgang with her other. In less time than the blink of an eye, she and Rajan were standing on a sidewalk next to Wolfgang as cold white snowflakes fell all around them.
"Wow, this is so beautiful," Rajan breathed. He reached out his hands, and snow quickly covered his palms.
There were twinkling lights all around them from the windows of the tall buildings that lined the street. Streetlamps near them were decorated with large candle outlines, all lit up with gold and blue. It was dark and cold downtown, but it was also utterly beguiling.
"The first snowfall of winter," Wolfgang said as he looked between them. "You can't stay long since you're only wearing pajamas, but I just wanted you to see."
"Oh thank you, Wolfgang," Rajan laughed in delight before he kissed Wolfgang on the cheek.
Kala watched Wolfgang's face. One eyebrow shot up in surprise, but then his lips curled into a warm smile.
"We were just thinking about you, you know," Kala said. She kissed Wolfgang on his other cheek for good measure. Wolfgang was turning positively pink, and it was probably not from the cold.
"Oh?" Wolfgang said hesitantly.
Kala took a chance and said what she was thinking. "Yeah. I think we just wanted to see you."
Wolfgang looked up at the snowflakes falling all around before he spoke. "Well I… wanted to as well."
Kala sighed, relieved. The three of them really did have something special. And Wolfgang was feeling it, too. She could tell from the way they were connected, his heart beating fast as happiness bloomed between them.
Rajan reached for Wolfgang's hand just as Kala did. The snow was cold, but Kala felt warmed from the inside out.
