More Horror Movies + Historium Bingo
Jul. 16th, 2020 09:01 pmGinger Snaps (2000): A lot of tropes were smashed together, and there was definitely an undercurrent of f/f sexual tension. Also, I feel like I rarely get to see the girl as the person who turns into a monster, so it was satisfying to see the main character go absolutely feral. I didn't like the ending and there was one character who was written in a racist way. 2.5/5 stars, but well-earned cult status.
Triangle (2009): CREEPY. I didn't expect anything going into it, and I thought I had things figured out, but then they really surprised me with the twists and turns near the end. This one left me thinking for a while afterwards, which to me is the true mark of a psychological thriller. Plus, this movie brought together many classic horror themes like the stalking slasher, alone on the open ocean, and weirdly empty hallways. 4/5 stars.

singedsun 's recc. I really like found footage films, and this one did an excellent job! There was definitely a lot of creepiness, spooky ambiance, jump scares, and some great characters that I was really rooting for. I've been thinking about how I could write a fic AU based on this film. 4/5 stars.
Sharknado (2013): I was expecting batshit crazy, and boy did this deliver. This is like the perfect movie after a few glasses of wine. I couldn't look away as the train wreck unfolded. I could clearly see the satire, but I did wish the main character was a bit less douchey/hyper-masculine. 5/5 stars if only because of THAT ONE SCENE. I'm totally going to watch the next one in the franchise.
The Lighthouse (2019): Ugh. I really tried to stick this one out because it has such good reviews, but I couldn't. There was hardly any talking and when there was, it was just one character being a total dick to the other one. Plus, there were one too many fart jokes for me. Too weird for my tastes.
