I'm so out-of-the-loop I had to google "Astros scandal". For some reason, I never got into team sports. (Possibly because I was so bad at them myself in gym class that I couldn't relate to them being fun.) On the rare occasion that I've sat down and watched a televised game with a friend who cared, it was fun. But left to my own devices, I don't know what's going on. If I don't have a team to root for than it's kind of pointless.
I'm the kind of person who has literally showed up at a Superbowl party just for the snacks with absolutely no idea who is playing. "Are we rooting for the red team or the blue team?" (Someone asked me who won the Superbowl once and I said I thought it was... rattled off the name of team that sounded familiar. "That's a baseball team." "Oh, okay, they didn't win then.")
I've also moved a lot so I never developed a local team loyalty. I've even told people (re: "Who are we rooting for?") that if they'll just tell me their team, I'm glad to watch with them. But most sports fan do not have the patience for an annoying newbie asking questions every two minutes.
