My massive crush on Jonathan Groff

I finally finished Mindhunter season two. It was emotional and complex and I have a lot to say about that later. But for now, JONATHAN GROFF!



I was introduced to him when I started Mindhunter, but it turns out that he was in Glee (Jesse St. James) and in Hamilton. He plays Kristoff and Sven in Frozen, and he's also been in a bunch of other Broadway productions. After I finished Mindhunter, I immediately went and watched a bunch of clips of Jesse St. James. He's besties with Lea Michele and Lin-Manuel Miranda, so basically he's a mega star and I had no idea. Most importantly for my purposes, he starred in a 2014 HBO show called Looking that has two seasons and a movie.

I immediately binged all of Looking season one and it's AMAZING! Very California Bay Area (where I'm from), a bit campy, very gay - I love it a lot even though it's basically a soap opera with a bunch of sex. It follows three gay best friends and their love lives (as well as their careers). This show makes me thirsty TM as hell, but also nostalgic for home.

He also was apart of a podcast musical in 2017 called 36 Questions, and I just downloaded it today.

I've fallen down a fandom spiral, that's for sure.

I love him, he's lovely. And man, I just really loved Mindhunter on the whole. It's a great show. The way he portrayed his panic/fear at the end of season 1 was just phenomenal.

Oh, I'm glad to hear someone else loved Mindhunter! Yes, I'm so thankful the show portrayed vicarious trauma in such a visceral way. Groff did an amazing job with that, and the other signs of anxiety in season two. I related a lot to his character.

I think I saw him in Hamilton? Back when it was first on Broadway, and the tickets were regular Broadway expensive rather than hyped, sold out expensive. I *should* have seen him in Spring Awakening, but never got around to catching that one.

I really enjoyed Mindhunter, though I haven't finished season two yet. His dynamic with Tench and with Wendy is great (I think that's her name? I keep thinking of her as not!quite!Olivia). And beyond him, I love the look of the show. The way the '70s, post-industrial, (often East Coast) wastelands and small towns are portrayed is so good.

The serial killers are good too. :P

And, honestly, who doesn't like Sven?

A low key superstar. Very nice!

Oo that's so awesome! He played King George with the original cast. I'm looking forward to when it comes out on DVD or streaming.


Yes, Wendy! The three of them make such a great team. And the show aesthetics are so thoughtful and haunting. I'm debating when to start a rewatch, but the show is so heavy that I think I'll have to take a little break.

I love the Groffster! I liked him in Glee, shelled out to watch him in Hamilton (he was amazing), loved him in Looking, he seems super nice and is totally talented, the complete package. There is a ton of pretty good him/LMM RPF, possibly spawned from this one vid (possibly taken down) of him showing up and kissing Lin on the mouth for Lin's birthday. I havent seen Mindhunter, but it sounds like I absolutely should! (Also, hi! I posted my thing on historium and then I came over to friend you, I hope you don't mind!)

Oh yay, glad you are also a fan :D I did see that video, I think it was in some sort of Groff Hamilton-related compilation that I watched and I was like OMFG I bet there are a bunch of shippers, lol. I'll have to go search the tags on AO3. I definitely wish I would have seen him in Hamilton, but hopefully it's coming out on DVD? And I recently finished watching Looking and the Looking movie, WOW. Groff really surprised me - that role is so different from his role in Mindhunter. Although I really love the dark subject matter of Mindhunter. I'll probably have to do a rewatch soon.
