I saw a hummingbird on Saturday!

I think my premieres went over well at VidUKon! I definitely going be catching up on/ rewatching vishows this week (timezone stuff meant a missed watching a bunch of them live).

I made a bunch of progress on my Georgiou vid (it went from a timeline that was maybe a third full to one that is ~80% full). ...although this did mean I didn't make any subtitle timing progress (I'm planning on working on that tonight).

Here's the new Korean practice post! I've switched to a post EVERY OTHER MONTH, as everybody is pretty busy. As usual now, it's an open chat.

You can write about whatever you want. If you're uninspired, tell us the story of what you're currently watching/reading/playing...
You can talk to one another.
You can also correct one another. Or just indicate "No corrections, please" in your comment if you prefer.

Duck Prints Press, an indie publisher of queer books, has 3 bundles for Pride Month!

I've bought Pride Bundle 2025: General Imprint Short Stories via itch.io.

If you don't know itch.io yet:
- it lets you buy e-books without DRM
- it lets you tip the authors
- there are often bundles (organised by the authors and/or publishers) where you can buy plenty of books for a low price

Special thanks to [personal profile] crabkick for the midnight emergency beta (and the bookstore coffee shop for the extra caffeine) after I decided to rewrite a whole scene in this chapter at 5pm on Friday. I think it turned out pretty good.

I went on a nice walk before dinner to give myself a break from the computer, hoping to revive my energy for Sonata editing...and put on the wrong playlist and came back with an intense desire to work on the Klavdar Pacific Rim AU. So that's fun.

I have no idea if I'll ever post that fic, because I have no idea how it ends, so instead, here's a little bitty prompt fill I wrote for it forever ago when I first got the idea.

A couple of times a year I go through my social media and prune down my following list on each site. When I realize that I'm avoiding looking at a particular page because it's TOO MUCH, it's time.

This past week I've gone through Tumblr, Twitter, and Dreamwidth (removing comms I always skip past). Instagram, I basically don't look at anyway but I'm removing the app later. Facebook is ... well, I only follow five things there so it's not like it's a trial. XD And Bluesky I haven't yet reached the point where I don't ever want to look at it.

I'm very rigid about keeping all my socmeds (minus DW) below fifty follows wherever possible, and moving what I can to my RSS reader. It helps the mental clutter, and eases the FOMO.

I'm kinda excited that The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System is getting deluxe hardcovers!

When I was looking at where it can be preordered, I discovered that Hudson Booksellers has functional listing for the deluxe boxset and a 20% off coupon (plus free USPS shipping over $55).

Managed to get Parts 1/2/5 of the PWKM catalogued on the spreadsheet! Tonight I think I'll take a shot at getting part 3a finished since parts 3/4 are both partial, and then I'm thinking maybe I'll skip to more recent parts and work my way backward for a bit.

But for now...Sonata editing. Check back in an hour to see if I managed to do at least the Daryan section.

Reclaimed by Seth Haddon

Reclaimed by Seth Haddon was amazing, as usual! The scholar Saba Vasili, a refugee from Kerinsk who now lives in Zvensia, is accused of inventing a machine that opened the astral sea and killed hundreds of people. He must prove his innocence with the help of Ambassador Luan Zek of the Rezwyn Empire.

This is the third book in the World of Reforged series, but they can be read more or less independently. Here, we get to learn even more about this original magic system.

Saba Vasili is a trans man with anxiety. I thought his dysmorphia was very well-written, without being too depressing. Luan Zek has an old leg injury and uses a cane. There's major m/m, as well as some f/f.

Apparently my power is out, so I will be staying at the bookstore for the rest of the evening or until it comes back on. I'm not exactly getting anything written, but I also don't want to turn off the computer, so...here I am!

I really need to buckle down and work on Sonata, but I'm not feeling the kind of subtle editing that this chapter needs right now (some rough stuff going on IRL that's making it hard to focus). So instead I'm writing Klavdarpollo accidental kitten acquisition, working on the PWKM spreadsheet, and playing around with an Ace Attorney/Texts From Last Night Tumblr blog.

(Apparently my mental solution to "I'm nostalgic for 2011" is to just...do the stuff I was too shy to do in 2011, LOL.)

Hereabouts, it's a long weekend, and we had Friday off, as well, so that has meant indulging a little but has also meant long rambles between raindrops and today's gardening-palooza. Once again, I'm reminded forcibly how important it is for me to be active and outdoors. The snakes in my brain are significantly less hissy when I get outside and exercise.

What do you do to help your mental health? If you feel like sharing, please do. As usual, please also share how you are doing on your fitness goals. And, as always, know that you can change those goals at any time.

Though, honestly, if the rest of the volunteers quit, and the ConCom wasn't responsive to the cries for help from the last two people, I might have done crime too. I'm still perplexed by the Hugos team quitting, as it seems like a disproportionate reaction from people not prone to melodrama, but we'll probably never know.

A lot of people have been covering this shitshow, which probably shouldn't fairly be in the LLM trashfire situation, but fells spiritually akin to it, so I'm putting it here. Savy also links to A Million Lives Recovery, which boosts all the authors, artists and vendors screwed over by this nonsense. It looks like mostly romantasy, but there's a variety in there.

(Awards homework for the Lodestar.)

So I read this without reading any of the rest of the Raybearer series, and a) it stood alone just fine and I was able to follow everything that wasn't an Easter Egg, and b) if you're interested in the original duology (which I probably have on my e-reader somewhere), I would definitely read that first, as this spoils the majority of the plot for the earlier books.
