For [community profile] halfamoon I was able to make a few posts:

For the theme both sides of the law, I made a post about JoAnne Galloway from A Few Good Men.

For the Education theme, I made some Liz Ortecho icons.

For the music theme, I made a playlist about Maria DeLuca and The Wild Pony.

For the dealing with adversity theme, I made a rec list of Natasha Romanoff Vids.

Finally was able to watch Top Gun: Maverick because I got my free month of paramount+. WOW I think it deserved the hype. It's so fun and so compelling (even though Mav being in the USN for 30 years and only making Captain is very weird). I can overlook that for all the COOL SHIT they do in the film. Plus, there are SO many good ships. I'll have to rewatch asap.

Also watched Devotion with Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell, and Joe Jonas! The two leads have fabulous chemistry and I loved all of the costumes and scenery. It felt a little over the top at times, and the ending was way too sad :/ But I thought Joe did well. He fit into that stereotypical class clown role but he also had some convincing concerned/sympathetic faces at the end of the film. Plus he looked good in Navy whites.

OG Roswell

I started watching OG Roswell just for kicks, and to compare to RNM. But 1x06 and 1x07 have sent me into fangirl territory. Basically there was an impromptu road trip that involved Michael stealing Maria's car. Then when Isabel and Max found out about it, they took off after them with Liz in tow. And then Kyle follows all of them and they end up at a motel. I love a good road trip trope, but this turned out to be a pretty hilarious caravan, ending in a confrontation in a random honeymoon suite. And now I'm shipping OG Maria/Michael - very similar vibes to RNM Maria/Michael in that they can't believe they're into each other.

Toby from The West Wing is in it!! And he's basically the same character which I can really appreciate :D It's pretty silly that the Feds and the local government are stalking these kids and trying to learn everything about them, but I can appreciate the way it's moving the plot along.

In OG Roswell, Max works at the UFO Museum and the UFO Museum owner is kind of like a mentor? And he's pretty shy and reserved. Plus, he's actually interested in doing research hence the job. In RNM, Alex is the one to work at the UFO emporium and be kind of a loner. Now I want to picture RNM Max working at the emporium with Alex - that would have been interesting. They could have talked about Michael :D Also OG Kyle is a total dickbag but I'm wondering when/if he's going to learn everyone's secrets.

In conclusion, both Maxs have the most soulful brown eyes and pretty eyelashes and I... have a type :P

Last year I posted about [community profile] fffc, [community profile] recthething, [community profile] vidding, and [community profile] historium.

Since last Snowflake, I've been loving [community profile] lands_of_magic! Hooray for a landcomm with a bunch of prompts and challenges!

I've really liked the vid prompts and tips at [community profile] vexercises but I haven't gotten a chance to do any of them beyond the first one.

My obsession last year was Roswell New Mexico (RNM). It seems like most of the fandom is on Discord and tumblr. My favorite RNM communities have been the 18+ discord server I'm a part of, as well as:
The Events Calendar at RNM Events
The RIP Roswell Halloween Event
RNM Comment Bingo!
I'm excited for the March for Meta event this year!

This musical break down of s1 has been really helpful.
And I've been finding all my screenshots for the show here.

To close out my thoughts on Escapade Con this year: The Falcon and The Winter Soldier panel was a lot of fun. There was a lot of positivity, and reflection on Sam as THE person to take over as Cap even though there is significant baggage involved. There was discussion about how it was great that they did discuss race outright in the show, and had Bucky get humble about his lack of knowledge, and people who were familiar with the comics had some really cool predictions that I'd like to see come true. I'm still annoyed with all the unnecessary killing and violence at the very beginning, but eh, it was an action show first and foremost.

The Supernatural panel was fun too! It was kind of cathartic to make fun of the prequel a bit. The discussion was mostly about fics we liked to read, and some reccs came out of that regarding outsider POV which is such a great trope - but especially with SPN fic.

I was grateful for the newcomer meet-up. That's how I met Jocarthage, and then they introduced me to Roswell: New Mexico!! Of course I find a shiny brand-new show right when it gets canceled :( But I've binged s1 and s2 and it's such a fun show. I'm getting my alien and scifi fix but also, SO MANY SHIPS <3

The 'save the kinkmemes' panel gave me an interesting perspective on preserving your online presence. I was thinking about deleting my LJ, but panel members discussed how saving your own content isn't necessarily about you - it's like a record of what was happening online in fandom spaces and otherwise at that time. Plus, you don't know who has read/saved your posts and wants to go back to them (I know I have followed quite a few dead links on LJ and I've been disappointed). At least AO3 exists so we can save your own fic - it's just tricky to save fic that was happening in comment threads, and you can't just post other people's fic on AO3.

The Teen Wolf panel wasn't my fav. There were a lot of Peter fans and I'm not that girl. I have glanced at some negativity online, but I joined the fandom late so I avoided a lot of it - this panel definitely gave me a glimpse because I heard why people don't like Scott (he assumed the worst about Stiles and blamed him for stuff???) and Allison (she should have stayed evil because she was too mean to Derek's pack???). But Allison is one of my favorites, so I'll just stay in my happy corner of tumblr :P

The law review about the A/B/O fic lawsuit was great. I had read the big 'mainstream' article when it came out, and I definitely cringed that the writer didn't know anything about fandom and also that fandom was so out in the open, but it was fun to discuss with another lawyer and hear other fan reactions to it. You can't call a trope protected intellectual property!! But also, the case didn't proceed all the way because one of the authors was caught in a lie and that led to a deal.

I made 5 wallpapers, all featuring images (mostly promos) from Roswell New Mexico season 1/2 and lyrics from songs that were used during season 1. Yay, time to update my desktop with my latest fandom! Originally posted here for [community profile] lands_of_magic.
